Product Name: Flame Retardant Gelcoat HS - LFI7035S
1. Brief Introduction:HS-LFI7035S Gelcoat is an intumescent flame retardant gel coat, which the base resin is Isophthalic-adipic acid unsaturated polyester resin, it is
suitable for spray process and it is pre-promoted. The gel coat is suitable for the surface of FRP products requiring flame retardant
.It is applicated in
rail transit, wind turbine nacelle cover, ship accessories and other fields with requirements for flame retardant.
2. Features: · Good construction performance;
· Excellent flame retardant performance(high oxygen index, low smoke density);
· Meet fire protection standards UIC564-2 Class B
· Good water and weather resistance.
3.Gelcoat Properties:
Gel time test:Curing agent M-50(AKZO) 2%.
4 . Application Notes :1). Mix the gelcoat in bucket gently before use, avoid excessive high shear rates and avoid air entrapment
during mixing.
2). Ideal application temperature should be between 18-25°C and humidity less then 80%. Mold should be
polished and clean before gelcoat application.
3). Prepare the mold so that the surface is dry, clean and oil-free.
4). The surface of the mould should be fully waxed (do not use the release wax containing silicone), and the
water-soluble release wax must wait for its moisture to evaporate before spraying the gelcoat.
5). The curing agent used for gelcoat is MEKP (the dosage is generally 1-3%).
6). The total thickness of gelcoat film should be between 600 and 1000μm. The thickness of each spray
shall not be more than 0.2mm, wait for 2-3 minutes after the solvent volatilizes, then spray to the
required thickness..
7). Check gelcoat cure degree before starting lamination layers. Press your finger for 30 seconds on gelcoat film to check cure degree. When you do not see gelcoat residue on your finger but gelcoat to remain sticky on the film, you can continue with lamination layers.
5. Operation procedure:
Note: Spray with paint spray can, the air source pressure is maintained at 20psi, the air flow per minute is not less than 0.6 cubic meters.
1). Prepare for spraying according to the requirements of the application guide.
2). Apply a thin layer of easy polishing primer (thickness no more than 0.2mm) on the surface of the original mold using the method of thin layer and multiple passes, and then wait to dissolve. After 2 minutes of evaporation, spray the next layer to the desired thickness. The primer will dry within 1 hour and you can start sanding.
3). Dry sanding with 220-320 mesh sandpaper, then sand with 600-1200 mesh water sandpaper, and then polish.
6. Storage:
1) Ensure the product is safeguarded from any heat sources such as direct sunlight or steam pipes. Store in a cool, dry area with temperatures maintained below 25ºC to preserve product integrity.
2) Maintain a secure seal to avert moisture absorption and prevent monomer loss. Extended storage outside prescribed conditions can alter the liquid resin properties, including viscosity and gel time.
3) Adhere to the State Council's 'Chemistry Dangerous Articles Safety Management Regulations' for transportation. Due to the presence of styrene monomer, handle with care as it is both hazardous and highly flammable.
